Windsurfing: Gruissan-France Wind Direction: nw Wind Stength: 20/30 Surf / Sea State: flat in - small swell out Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny Max Speed: 31.39 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 110 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Another great night at Peyriac :) our favourite overnight camping spot on
the coast!!! Arrange to met Pete on the beach at Gruissan .We manage the
rock chicane again we find Pete already there !!! The beach looks like a
moonscape where the strong winds of the last couple of days have blown the
sand off a lot of the beach and made small dunes near the water’s
edge!!!! So over a cuppa we decide on rig choice and with winds gusting to
nearly 30 mph but supposed to drop by midday, Pete rigged his Tushingham
5.8 and I went for my crispy old Tushingham x-15 6.4 – having to tap
another hole in the top panel first!!!!
As from previous experience getting over 30 knots seems hard for me with
the wind being so’oooooooooooo square so we were trying for a good hour
and lots of miles :) Pete was flying with his 5.8 and falcon 80 and I was
having great fun too mainly sailing from the sandy bank just down the beach
to where the Etang comes into the sea where the kiters play !!! I was
struggling abit staying upwind in the flat water near the beach as my sail
was too full but I did manage to make it tp Port-la-Nouvelle and it was
fantastic going full tilt in the small swell for 5/6 mile reaches :) We
came in after about an hour and a half with Pete hoping for a mid 20’s
hour and a 32 max :) I didn’t have any idea as I had my gps tucked down
my life jacket but had down 32 n/miles.
So after recharging my batteries with lunch we set off again and had a
great afternoon adding nearly another 50 n/m :) even though the wind was
easing off with holes in places but you could manage to keep the board
going by bearing off a little.
So my best day ever at Gruissan, best max and average a disappointing hour
but must improve my gybing and try to stick to the windiest area !!!
Finally called it a day when I reached the 80 n/mile mark at five :) just
in time to wave Pete off as he started his long trip home :( We chuck all
the gear in the van and head inland to Lac du Salagou, park up right by the
lake, watch a kitesurfer sail past, rinse the sand from my wetsuit and go
for a swim in the warm shallow lac with Mag as the sun sets over the
mountains – a top spot!!!
